Block model of a Chinese junk (Fuzhou) - ‘sanseuba’
Description
Ship model of a ‘sanseuba’, used for the transportation of both cargo and some eight passengers on the River Min near Fuzhou.
Excavated block model with transverse bulkheads. Longitudinally strongly rising flat bottom. Fore ending in a strongly raking broadening swim head, aft in a strongly raking horseshoe-shaped transom. Rounded bilges, bent sides, moderate sheer, fixed fore cuddy board, behind it a countersunk cuddy board with separate hatches. Further divided into four hatch covers up to the rounded stern, with steering oar hole. Raised board with wings up to the transom and beyond. On the board, on either side four high and two low dented stanchions for four arched covers of bamboo matting. Bamboo wale. Underwater hull red. Swim head and transom decorated with painting.
