Ship model of a Chinese junk (middle Chang Jiang?) - passengers junk
Description
Ship model of a junk used for the transportation of passengers. Model built of planks and transverse bulkheads. Flat bottom, longitudinally rising and fore continuing in a flaring swim head. Aft rising and ending in a flat straight transom. Below the wales, flaring board, above which three heavy, flattened convex wales, from stem to stern. Sides run beyond the transom and form two large wings of a rudder well. Open, upwards broadening swim head, top of which ends in a broad transom. Strongly backwards rising sheer. Steep fore cuddy board with cathead projecting over the swim head. Cabin with porch. The side wall of it gives entry to a countersunk cabin. Transversely across the cabin two gallows resting on the gangway. The latter running up to the back of the wheelhouse and cleats fitted along the wheelhouse. Behind the wheelhouse lies a small cuddy board. In the floor of the wheelhouse behind the side coaming having a hole for the rudderpost, a square opening above the rudder well (probably a toilet). Half balanced rudder with straight back, high bent upper side. Foremast, without rig. Mainmast with uncoloured cotton cloth sail out of one piece.
