Block model of a Chinese junk (Shanghai or more to the south) - house boat / floating restaurant
Description
Block model of a house boat for important persons or possibly used as a floating restaurant. Such ships were rowed, punted, towed or tracked.
Excavated block model. Flat-bottomed with longitudinally curved bottom, rising stemwards and angularly continuing in a flat, upwards broadening swim head. Angular bilge. Two upper strakes running up to and beyond the swim head and forming wings. Moderate sheer. Against the upper strake a convex wale with an outboard gangway. Deck house from side to side, standing on a low bulwark, nearly vertical walls and flat roof. Entrance to the deck house through porch. Against the rear wall a transverse bunk. On top of the deck house a flat, oblong skylight. Behind the deck house a flat roof and raised centre panel. After cuddy board up to the transom timber. Decorated with colourfully painted carvings with Chinese characters, floral and plant motifs.
