This is what the activity on one of the quays in Antwerp looked like around the year 1900. Mixed cargoes, iron pipes, boxes, barrels, wood and also bulk goods, such as coal, were brought on board using a steam-powered crane and a water-powered crane, as well as by using the ship's own cargo jibs. Specific cargoes, such as a steam boiler in this case, were tied down to the ship's deck.
