Taffrail depicting the biblical scene Wedding at Cana. The piece is trimmed with a border of birds, fruits and flowers.
A taffrail (NL: hakkebord) is the top of the stern of a ship. On smaller sea-going vessels, until the 19th century, this taffrail was often decorated with polychromed wood carvings, with biblical motifs on the front and heraldic ones on the back. The semicircular shape is distinctive.
