Block model of a Chinese junk (Fuzhou) - cargo junk for the transportation of stone
Description
Ship model of a cargo junk, used for carrying stone. Shape and decoration bear a distinct resemblance to the ‘shiaobaidi’ from the Fuzhou region.
Excavated block model with transverse bulkheads. Keel boat. Flat bottom, rising fore and aft, with lean forebody ending in a steep, curved and flaring swim head, aft ending in a straight, broad, rising transom. Moderate sheer. Rounded bilge, slightly bent board. Fixed fore cuddy board, gangway with side coaming running up to the stern. Open holds, except for the front one. Mast beam with windlass on the port side. Bulkhead for deck house covered with small roof of bamboo matting, supported by four dented stanchions. Mast with cotton cloth standing lug. Drop rudder. Swim head, side coaming and transom painted. Oculus.
