Block model of a Chinese junk (Fuzhou) - riverine fishing boat
Description
Ship model of a junk which was used together with a drop net in riverine fishing. A feature worth noticing is the alternating placement of sail battens on the weather side and leeward of the sail. The character on the fore swim head has been obliterated.
Excavated block model with transverse bulkheads. Longitudinally strongly rising flat bottom ending in a strongly raking angular transom. Angular bilge. Sides crooked into two straight pieces. Fore cuddy board with three separate hatches. Behind the mast, transverse bulkhead with sliding panels. Behind, three hatch covers. The rear compartment has been raised. After cuddy board up to the stem bulkhead with an opening for a steering oar. Raised board with wings up to the transom and beyond. In front of high transverse bulkhead a steering scaffold with three steps. On the board four dented stanchions for three arched roofs of bamboo matting. Mast with square sail of bamboo matting. Swim head and transom painted. One steering oar, weighted with a stone.
