Block model of a Chinese junk (Shanghai) - freighter
Description
Block model of a western type of freighter, probably intended as a lighter and according to the 'Catalogue' (1905) (p. 237 no. 601) used in the port of Shanghai.
Excavated block model with transverse bulkheads. Keel boat with well-curved stem and straight stern. Rounded frame, fore and aft slightly flaring. Fine forebody, rounded, overhanging stern. Heavy, square wale, running along the upper strake. Slight sheer. Superstructure up to the side. The side of the superstructure, having a well-rounded top, continues in a flat roof, with three fixed and two loose parts closed off by four sliding panels. After cuddy board. Rudder with curved after piece, straight underside. Underwater body, painted in reddish brown, upper works and deck chestnut. Superstructure bluish grey and chestnut. ‘REG d 40 NO 33’ painted with black on side wall.
