Block model of a sampan. Crew of 2 persons. According to the 'Catalogue' of 1905 (p. 46 no. 70) a sampan from Zhifu. Planking and shape indicate, according to D. W. Waters, an origin more to the north, though decoration on stem and stern is typical of Fuzhou.
Excavated block model with three transverse bulkheads. Flat bottom, steeply rising longitudinally fore and aft, tapering up front. Connected to flaring, trapezoidal, bent swim head. Flat horseshoe-shaped, overhanging, countersunk transom, closed by a heavy transom beam. Rounded bilge, boards and wales ending aft in two wings. Short bow beam, broad transom beam. Forebody, open waist up to fore bulkhead, countersunk deck, countersunk cuddy board. Fore swim head, board and transom colourfully painted in red, green and black patterns.
