This wooden drinking cup was a luxury item in the 19th and early 20th century. They were used for drinking palm wine, a drink that is still popular today. The cups in the shape of a drum or a head were very sought after by the elite. The highest in rank, the ‘kum apoong’, didn’t actually use them in public. They always ate and drank in private.
