Dit Malinees weefsel bestaat uit vijf aan elkaar genaaide stroken inheems katoen en is versierd met twee rijen zigzagmotieven. Traditioneel worden de smalle bandweefsels door mannen gemaakt en tot kledij verwerkt. De vrouwen versieren de stoffen met een specifieke techniek, 'bogolan'. Dit is een eeuwenoude manier om met modder en natuurlijke materialen motieven op textiel aan te brengen. De 'bogolanfani' of "modder-stoffen" die traditioneel enkel door vrouwen werden beschilderd zijn verbonden met belangrijke scharniermomenten als geboorte, initiatie, huwelijk en dood.
