[Google Arts&Culture] Around 1914 Belgium imported 80% of its grain for bread-making. During the First World War these imports ceased and led to an enormous shortage of grain. The Commission for Relief in Belgium was an international aid organisation. During the war Belgium received food supplies from America, including over 320.000 tons of flour. They had their own large-scale network of mills, factories, railways and ships.
