Block model of a Chinese junk (Fuzhou) - passengers junk

Ship model of a junk which was used for the transportation of some 20 passengers on inland waterways. The character on the fore swim head means ‘spring’.
Excavated block model with transverse bulkheads. Longitudinally strongly rising flat bottom, fore ending in a raking angular swim head. Angular bilge. Moderate sheer. The board crooked into two straight pieces, the hull divided into six holds with deck covers, the rear compartment higher. Stem bulkhead with steering port. Aft a raised board with wings up to the transom and beyond. On each board three dented stanchions for a roof of bamboo matting. Bamboo mast with rectangular spritsail. One steering oar. Swim head and stern painted.
