Block model of a Chinese junk (Shanghai) - freighter
Beschreibung
Freighter from Shanghai with single, high, rectangular sail. At the outside a round buffer is attached as an extra wale to prevent damaging the ship, while at the same time strengthening the longitudinal structure. In the port of Shanghai, this and similar types were used as lighters for sea-going ships.
Excavated block model with transverse bulkheads. Flat bottom, fore steeply rising and continuing with a slight curve in a flaring swim head, aft rising and ending in broad slightly flaring swim head. Slightly bent bilges and side, up to the slightly backwards running sheer line. The upper planks of the side run backwards beyond the swim head and form two wings. At deck level a square wale or gangway has been placed against the hull. At the outside of the wale a round buffer. Forebody with fixed fore cuddy board. Countersunk deck. Mast beam with tabernacle for a tabernacle mast. Behind the mast, countersunk deck between a narrow gangway. After cuddy board up to broad transom beam. Behind the transom beam a fake cuddy board. Between the wings a windlass. The rudder is liftable.
